The a/c compressor on my 90 max gxe has started making a grinding noise. Sounds and looks like the bearing in the clutch assy.is going bad. The clutch assy wobbles and the fingers on the outer edge are rubbing the outer rim of the clutch. The noise goes away when the a/c is running. What should I do and what price tag am I looking at??

yup.. sounds like the clutch is bad..

your options are to buy a new/used compressor or to replace the clutch.

you can byu a used compressor for 50-100 $, or a new clutch for about the same price. it's up to you.

 

Thanks for getting back to me.I had my mechanic check to see if he could get a replacement clutch and we were told that we had to get a new compressor. he called two different parts stores. Do you have info where we should check or how to get one. thanks

 

nope.. can't tell you much there, but I do know that some people have bought new clutches for them. where they got them or how is another story.
