VG30E vs, VG30DE short block differences

How different or how much the same are the short block assemblies between these two engines. Will DE heads fit on an E engine. Pistons are probably different. Clearance issues? Valve notches? Any inputs would be appreciated.

It is an easy and common swap. I did mine last week during my lunch break. The DE heads make a huge difference in engine power. I love it.

from what I've read the DE heads will not properly bolt-up to the VG30E or ET blocks. and either way how would you even run a timing belt for that thing?? also you'd have to check the coolant/oil paasages and see if they line up...in the end it seems like a total waste of time and money to me.

Re: VG30E vs, VG30DE short block differences

Outside of the DE heads being twice as wide there isn't much difference between it and a 88-89 Z31 VG30E. Actually you would need a Z31 block made after 5/87 to fit DE heads on it. So in short buy the complete VG30DE. Next get a big hammer and welder and modify the firewall to get a snug fit .
