Well, the way you stated your question you answered it, so if you want a clearer answer next time ask a clearer question.
But to answer your question changing a bad O2 sensor will improve mileage and performance. You may also want to check your flex pipe to see if you have any holes because if you have any holes there then it could give your O2 sensor false readings causing it to malfunction.

it is part of yor y-pipe (look under your car and the pipe that hooks to your exhaust manifolds [y-pipe] has a section that has a metal mesh covering on it that flexes with your engine ie flex pipe) and connects to the cat. O2 sensor is next to it in the y-pipe. (well at least on the VE)

thanks, Now I remember I had it replaced by the mechanic. What they did was cut the flex pipe and then put a new one by melting...

if you ever plan on modding this car at all you may want to get an aftermarket y-pipe.

I recently discovered a fuel leak near the gas tank on my 93 SE, that decreases fuel efficiency!

Thankfully a hose replacement took care of that.

yes that can do it as well as the fuel filler pipe. There was a recall on it.

the obvious issues are alignment, tire pressure, driving style, accessories, traffic , weather, tune up, tire size, weight, wind resistance, gravity, altitude, old parts that lose their specs..
gas octane
there are alot of reasons

When I got my Max back in August, changing the charcoal-black air filter gave me an extra 100 miles on the tank!

So the lesson is, don't forget the obvious stuff.

Fosgate Fan, When you installed the K&N filter, did you notice a difference in economy/performance. Is it worth the money?

If you love your car and plan on keeping it for a while get one. Remember, you can always reuse it on another car or sell it later if you want. You will definately notice a performance increase (POP or CAI) once you remove that restrictive air box. Economy is about the same. You don't need to spend 200 bucks to get it though.

Also, and I know that this was mentioned briefly, but I want to emphasize that driving style dramatically changes your mileage. I drove aggressively on my Max until just recently. I now get 100 more miles per tank! Just don't accelerate so fast and drive the limit (thats a hard one I know!). These are two easy things to help improve your mileage.

speeding up and stopping then speeding up etc..

yes i had a breather that runs from my gas tank under the rear left wheel and it had worn out , so everytime i filled up with gas i would lose most of it b.c when i turned off the max, the pressure
in the tank was released and then the tube would expand and the gas would leak from the crack.,. very dangerous, i dint notice til i kept smelling gas and my nose lead me to the rear where i litteraly saw dribbles of gas coming down.. quick fix..

replace what you can see...all of them. the lines are old so they tend to "seep" gas out..hence the smell.

small can mounted on the firewall vertically. hose from the bottom...hose coming from the top.

depressureize the gas line 1st...(pulling fuel pump fuse)

loosen 2 clamps (top and bottom)
pull hoses off..
spray yourself w/ gas.
knock over screwdriver while reaching for new filter.
install new filter while paying attention to flow direction (should be an arrow --> flow)
slide hoses back to new filter
tighten clamps
wipe spilled gas from fender
turn the car to "on" position to check for leaks..hear the pump prime the fuel/engine.
go back in your house smelling like gas

quick question, are there different flow rates in the fuel filter based on different filter brands?
