Alarm/electrical issue

Driving on the highway last night and my alarm started going off; horn honking, high beams flashing. When I shut the car off it keeps going and the car will not restart! I tried pulling the alarm and horn fuses, but it did no good. I had to disconnect the battery. Its a 1990 maxima SE, any ideas on the possible issues?

Are you talking about the factory system or an aftermarket system?

Sorry I should have clarified this is the factory alarm system.

that's really weird, the alarm shouldn't be able to go off while the car is turned on

you can unplug the stock unit and that might help - if you remove the lower dash panel on the drivers side (8 or 9 screws including one hidden in the end under a plastic cover), you'll see a metal box just to the left of the steering column and it should say something like theft warning system on it, try unplugging that

The worst part is the car won't start. I just had the battery tested at lunch time, its good. Something I didn't try (in my stupidity) was using the key to lock and unlock the car on the driver side. If I yank the Theft warning system the car sould still function normally correct? Lock doors, etc.

yeah, try disarming it first with the key in the door

everything else should work fine with the alarm disconnected
