Greetings..........I have a 92SE that I have had for a while now. It has 117k and I have noticed that the knocking from the vtc assemblies has been getting louder and more consistent. My questions is will putting a synthetic oil like Mobil 1 and putting in that toyota filter make a difference? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

i used to use mobil 1... made my vtcs tick even more. according to lab results mobil 1 is pretty sad. i HIGHLY recommend amsoil. my engine used to make all sorts of noises including lifters, vtcs, and a strange knocking that i couldn't locate. with amsoil protecting it now, my engine is nice a quiet. it's also a lot cooler too afer driving it very hard. serach for the member iwannabmw. he's a dealer and will give you the best prices. he's also a great guy to deal with. good luck.

Been using mobil 1 since I bought the SE 2 years ago. No problems at all. Anyway are you sure it's your VTC's that are ticking? It could be your lifters.
