Scratches painting
Scratches painting
Ok, let's say I never did car painting before. There are some scrathes on my max I'd like to get rid of.
I need some hints and advices guys. Please don't beat me up
This is what I'm going to do. Correct me if I'm wrong.
1. Use sandpaper on the rust if any.
2. Apply rust converter. Wait for... How long?
3. Rust converter suppose to convert rust to the primer. Does it mean that I don't need to apply any additional primer?
4. Paint. I don't have touch paint of my color in any store around. So I've bought a spray. Can I use it for scratches if I'll cover the surface around?
5. Clear coating... Well again I dont have any right now. Can I apply it later?
Before clear coating should I use sandpaper on the painted surface?
I'd appreciate any advices.
Thanks in advance.

Personally, if the rust was light surface rust, I'd sand all of it to bare metal, primer and paint, and if it was bad enough, I'd replace the panel or patch at least. How bad are these scratches you are referring to? If they are light scratches that aren't too deep, they'd most likely be able to be buffed out. However, if you felt the need to paint yourself, I'd paint the whole panel at the very least instead of trying to blend it. This would include sanding and shooting while masking off surrounding areads. As far as clearcoat goes, automotive-brand clearcoats are supposed to be sprayed within a particular timeframe for maximum adhesion. However, all this is my personal, unprofessional opinion. I'm sure there's someone who can help you more than I can. For what it's worth, check out http://www.paintscratch.com if you needed to find your particular paint code in a spray can, along with reducers, clearcoats, etc.. Good luck.
