Non-ABS = Sliding into a Blazer

[ouch]geeezus, this past weekend...i turn my head to check my blind spot to get into a left lane. I take my foot off the gas pedal cuz my lane starts going. Then my mom yells watch out. I SLAM on my brakes...and my wheels lock up and I slide into a Blazer bumper

-Cracked my left headlight
-Cracked and pushed back my grille
-Severely scraped off paint on bumper
-Bent hood

FAWK!!!!!! I can find a headlight at a junkyard probly, or off eBay. I can fix the paint thru work, but the hood...[/ouch]

1. pay more attention.
2. learn how to brake hard w/o locking them up.
3. sheet metal is easy to replace. don't try to fix, just replace.

ABS only helps you steer while you stop.
if you're going straight and panic stop w/o turning the wheel you're in the mercy of your brakes and tires and no ABS system could've saved your ****.

i know it was 100% my fault. But, the fact of IF i had ABS...you think I still would have hit him? I know yall have the "import scene" wherever you are. and there's always one road thats rush hour 24/7 - thats a road i was on. + GA traffic is terrible.

AND, you think if i would've pulled up the e-brake...would that have helped?

if it's dry ground and you're going straight ebrake **may** help...but don't do it if you're not ready to predict the car's reaction to it.

ABS DO NOT STOP YOU SHORTER!!! it's only there u allow you to steer while underbreaking.
if you skid and turn the wheel the car will still skid straight...ABS will allow you to steer.

i hate people that think ABS is some magic in the brakes system that allows u to stop faster...IT'S NOT!

I just use my regular mirrors, and I have them set in such a way that I have no blind spot. If the car isn't right next to me so I can see it out my window, it'll be in my mirror.
