Plenum question (Replacing Fuel Injectors)

I'm taking apart my '89 GXE to replace a couple of fuel injectors. I got the plenum off, and found that it looks a little strange. Now, I'm a novice, and I don't "know" what this is supposed to look like, but I'm thinking that someone here can tell me if there is a problem or not.

I lot of cruddy hard little pieces of crap around the right edge.

Anybody wanna trade 4 good yellow dot '93 injectors for 4 good '89 blue dots?

It's just not good, the cleaner the better combustion.

the plenum gasket is like 34 or so at the dealership, yea get a brush and carb cleaner and get busy with the carbon removal. What grade of gas are you using?

Upper and lower plenum gaskets are $21 at the dealer.

I think it could be caused by various things like, not changing the oil at proper intervals, driving the car at low oil temps for short intervals, using cheaper quality engine oil (ones with no detergent properties), a high mileage engine, etc. Does it appear to be a problem of some sort, I don't think so. It does appears to be maintenance related. Try using a motor flush once the engine is back together and avoid the things I listed earlier, except the high mileage part.

I wonder if he drove backwards, could he avoid the high mileage part?

The fun continues today. Waiting on the injectors, so I'm attacking the leaking possibly broken exhaust studs.
