gas tank

i have a 90 maxi and i just got it about 2 months ago.i know it came from up north where rust is common place and i have some rust issues but the real issue right now is when i got the car and went to open the gas cap to fill her up i heard the pressure sound that you should hear when you open it but a few weeks after i noticed that the sound was gone and also noticed a hissing sound coming from the back alot like the sound of a nail in the tire when it leaking air so i look at the tire first and found no nail so right then i knew it was the tank so after that i started smelling gas and just yesterday i finally seen gas dripping from the tank on the left side and it looks like it is coming from the top so does anyone know what is on the top and what the cause for the leak could be?any hel-p would be greatly apperciated

I believe this is the fuel filler rusting...there was a recall by nissan on this issue. Take it to your nissan dealership and let them have a look.

Re: gas tank

I had noticed a leak on my near the fuel filler pipe. It turned out to be the vent hose coming from the gas tank. I ordered both the vent hose and the filler hose (both flexible rubber hoses) and I had to drop the gas tank to replace them. I found a little tear in the vent hose once I got it down. If you find it isn't the metal filler part check these out.
