Chiltons vs. Haynes

I'm going to buy a book for working on my 91 GXE and want some opinions from those who've checked them out. I've never checked out a Haynes book before... only Chiltons for my past rides. I've had a few of the "heard it before" problems with them.... missing pages, annoyingly vague instructions, etc. Are Haynes any better, especially for my 91?

Re: I would go for FSM

i would go with FSM too. I have a haynes, that's all i've ever seen in the stores actually. It's for 93-99s so it's 3rd and 4th gen, and it doesn't really cover the VE at all, but that's ok cause i got a VG. anyway, you have a 91, i don't really know the year range haynes makes, or chiltons for that matter. I dono which would be better, but FSM is probably the best.

There's no comparison when comparing the FSM to any other manuals, but I do understand his original question. Shortly I'll also be looking into a Haynes or Chilton manual for my wifes Honda. Since we purchased her car new it has been dead reliable for 90K (not even a hiccup) come on it's Civic. So I'm assuming a regular manual will do. Maybe I should be asking on the Honda board, but in general which manual is better between the two?

to answer your question Mike (and bouncer, too...), it's probably a matter of objectivity. I've actually got all three (FSM, Chilton's and Haynes), and I've found the Chilton's to be not as descriptive in terms of disassembly/reassembly as the Haynes is. But on the other side of the coin, the Haynes has waaaay better pics that are easier to understand and reference.

So, you be the judge!

If you're lucky maybe from another member or eBay. They show up on eBay pretty often.

93 FSM ok for 92 MAX?

Guys, I have a 92 SE. There is a guy selling a FSM for 93. I would think the manual should be the same as 92. I would like to confirm before buying?

Can someone confirm, thanks.

Note: a lot of the manuals listed on ebay are actually CD’s. I had a CD manual for a Saab and it sucked, not sure if Nissan one's are any better. Plus, that grease will never come off your keyboard.
