gutting out the catalytic converter...
Can I punch out the baffling in my 93 Maxima SE's stock catalytic converter? I have heard of it on trucks and stuff but I was wondering if it would give better performance to us as well...
Would any ECU problems occur with this mod? Thanks in advance,
Zach

What MaximaBalla is probably smelling is his car running rich. I know my car did that when I took my cat off.
I think I have a leaky injector though but not sure since I dont think I notice it until I took the cat off. I just "figured" that the ECU over compesates for the free flow of exhaust and was pouring the gas to the engine. I havent tested my injectors yet but that is one of the things I am going to do when I replace my VTCs.
I already replaced my O2 sensor and TPS for other reasons and that didnt fix it. I replaced my water temp sensors too because I know that can make the ECU think the car is running cold which will feed more fuel too.

No its not supposed to do that...there is something wrong. I have had plenty of cars that didnt have a cat and they didnt run rich or smell bad.
I believe that I have read on here that raw fuel would ruin a cat.

A properly functiong engine with a proper converter will see NO gains by removing the cat.
one with a problem will see some gains.
