SOHC Honda's (one exception is the J-spec Integra Type-R) are easy kills.
DOHC VTEC.. watch out.. they will give you a good run.

Since you have a VE 5-spd, you should run very well if not beat Honda's. Just keep on practicing your shifts. Also, keep away from Honda's with engine swaps.. they are pretty quick.

Damn, Honda's confuse the crap outta me!!

in my area there are far more Riceboys than real enthusiats....like say I go up to the track(which is a couple of counties over) all the guys with the "REAL" Hondas/Acuras are there pulling 9, 10 seconds like no ones business, but I come back home and I'm getting revved on by "Sticker Boy Johnson" in his STOCK '83 civic with TONS of decals and NO mods!! but one day I met up with a Honda boy in MY area that would change my views....I consider him my current street racing "nemesis" (drives a modded out mid '90s Honda Civic EX that really has MODS) since we really can't shake each other when we face off!! anyways my point is it's really confusing when it comes to the Hondas, you never know if their "packing" of just "faking"!!!

this fat retard that graduated from my school just showed up at my house the other day in a civic, he blew the engine in his rustang...hehe. its a 99 i think. ex, sohc vtec manual, with intake, exhaust, and basic bolt-ons. but anyways he starts talking all this crap about my car and so he decides he wants to race me. of course he thinks he'll blow me away..lol. he had me by about 10 feet almost through 1st gear but i just basically walked him from there. i was right beside him at about 35. it was hilarious cuz i was just toying with him for a while too, pumping the gas a little here and there while he's WOT and he cant pull on me at all, and i'm just jumpin him. so then i'm like enough of this crap and so i go WOT and just walk him so hard. of course he felt like a moron after that and went home with his tail between his fat legs.

but yeah the dohc you gotta watch out for. i dont think i've been beat by one yet, but its always been really close.

I run a totally stock VE 5sp. with 5 degrees advanced timing and K&N panel filter and here is what I have learned.

My buddy at work with a '99 Civic SI will lose the 60 ft. race big time with me. After he falls 2-3 car lengths behind me he will hang out there. I should race him on a rolling start because once hes up on his cams, I think its prob. a dead even race.

I raced my buddy's 95 GS-R with cat back and an intake. We had a rolling start on the freeway going 40. My max had no hope as he pulled on me pretty good. He didn't spank me but it was obvious that the max wasn't going to keep up with him.

Accords are cake; most of them are rice.

I won't mess with any nice looking hatch that has asians in it. They always womp on me big time and I know that they aren't stock...

I can't stand civic owners they are almost all the same whit there type are stickers and v tec this and v tec that super huge cherry bomb pipes in the back. so it feels extra good to destroy them. Anyone one else just pissed off by civics / drivers ?

Yeah, I hate those damn Civic's too. There seem to be so many of them all over the place and they get annoying. I havent had the chance to race one yet, 'cause around here in Vermont you really cant race anywhere. I think that I might be the only person in Vermont with nice 3rd Gen Maxima. All the others are beat up and rusty. But I will always own a Maxima for the rest of my life. There's just something about the Civic's that just makes me hate them.

Yeah, that is definately a pretty car, I need to do a lot of work on mine, there's spot rust and everything is stock. Oh well, I'll take care of everything over the summer. Where are you from, I nearly had a heart attack when I saw that green and white plate, I'm up at school right now in Maine. Normally I live in Burlington though, I fell in love with my car the moment I first saw it. There's only one place I can think of to race...Bolton flats on I-89, but the name is still misleading. I know what you mean about civics, I drove a buddy of mines 86 a few weeks ago when he broke his collar bone and it didn't feel like the was anything under the hood, and the thing was tiny. The speedo needle did jump up fast though.

I used to own a 89 civic si hatchback with lots of mods and it was fun to drive no doubt but my MAX would embaress it. In fact it has cause my brother now owns it. There are definately some fast civics out there I just haven't run into one that could wooop me. Most are just stickered up slugs!!!!

I've learned to not mess w/ a nice looking hatch.
Now the 4door GSR is a different story, for a VE.

VE vs VG

Can someone tell me how a second gen VG compares to a 3rd gen VG? Then how will a second or third gen VG stand up against a SOHC Vtec civic (ex)?

Stock for stock......

here are some comparison times between the 2nd and third gens:
1985 Nissan Maxima SE-->0-60 in 8.6, 1/4mi. in 16.7
1989 Nissan Maxima SE-->0-60 in 8.9, 1/4mi. in 16.9
close race, huh? very driver dependent!!!!!
a 3rd gen VG can beat a any year Civic, but thats all up to the driver once again......personally I've beat many "Vtec Civics"<b>(I don't consider Vtec even a problem unless its in a Prelude or a Integra GSR!! the integs and preludes you have to worry about!)</b> since the Max has way more torque theres no hope if I get a good launch, and just to prove that Vtec in Civics are POS, I let them get a head start(and let their "little" Vtech activate or whatever at 3-4K rpms) and then I blow by 'em!!

Re: Stock for stock......

Once again... It comes down to SOHC VTEC and DOHC VTEC... SOHC VTEC (such as civic's but not the SI) have SOHC. A maxima could beat them all day and all night. DOHC VTEC (Integra GS-R, Type-R, Civic SI, Del Sol DOHC VTEC, Prelude DOHC VTEC) will give you a good run.

Yeah.......

I was thinking about the Si's after I wrote that, just didn't feel like editing the post ....anyways I ran a '99 or '00 Civic Si about a month ago, and I was expecting to get beat by a little(since it's a 160hp, 5spd), but I was suprised that we didn't really pull me badly in the mid-range(we didn't run very for very long), I got a good start and he pulled back up on me, we paced and he only pulled me by maybe a 1/4th of a car length or less till we stopped, but nothing as bad as I've done to the Civic's "less endowed" predessesors from years past! but once again this is street racing, but stock for stock though, I think he could definently take me on the track, I think they run high 15's to mid 16's?? though played out, and with a bad reputation for being RICED, the newer Si isn't a bad car at all, mad potential!! and the early '90s Prelude is a silent killer too, not sure which year exactly put around 190hp on a light 4 cylinder isn't to be messed with!!

killer Ludes???-->

1994 Honda Prelude VTEC 7.2 15.1
<b>1995 Honda Prelude VTEC 6.7 15.1</b>

here are a other "Honduh" times I dug up:
1992 Honda Civic Si 8.5 16.4
1992 Honda Civic Si Hatchback 8.4 16.5
1993 Honda Civic Coupe EX 8.4 16.5
1993 Honda Civic del Sol Si 8.8 16.8
1994 Honda Civic del Sol VTEC 7.4 15.8
1994 Honda Civic EX Sedan 8.8 16.8

1996 Honda Civic Coupe HX 9.4 17.1

Re: Yeah.......

Good Info... It would be complete if you added the Integras but it's all good... just know not to mess with a Type-R or GS-R hehe... LS, GS, RS are slow suckers.

last summer, me and my friends went up to the track in Scribner, Nebraska. its the closest track, which is still about 1-2hr drive. i had my '1995 Chev Beretta Z26 still, and i didnt want to run it so i didnt take it.(I did take it up earlier that summer at it ran 16.9. ouch. the only car slower than mine was a pre 94 'teg, running 17.4s, so i didnt feel so bad) anyway, there was a Hon-duh Civic Si up there. that thing never broke into the 15s. it wasnt even hot out, it was late summer/early fall and it was like 50 degrees. i think the best run was 16.1.

goes to show its all in the driver. those VTEC/DOHC engines need a damn good driver to keep the RPM range in the VTEC. our cars, with more torque are more forgiving

Oh definently.......

if you're a racer and you can't launch and you can't shift thorugh the gears, you're in the same boat as everyone else(unless you're driving a Viper GTS or something!), the number one variable in my book is definently the <b>DRIVER!</b>
