Problem starting the car and putting on neutral only works.
I have a nissan maxima 93 xe. It is an automatic transmission.
Having problems with starting the car. Whenever i turn on the ignition it doesn't start but all the sensor lights come up but the engine doesn't turn on. The only way i can start the engine is by puttting it on neutral and then turning the ignition again. The starter has been switched and battery is new. My mechanic himself doesn't know whats going on, does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks.

Sounds like your bushing on the shifter linkage broke/fell off. Its a common problem. You can buy both bushings from Nissan, around $4. One is located where the cable meets the tranny. The other is under the shifter, it can only be accessed from under the car, and its located above the cat convertor, the convertor does not have to be removed but there is a heat sheild above the cat that must be removed to access the linkage. Using ramps is the best way to get at that one.
