Antenna issues

I remeber seeing a write up on how to fix a broken antenna but I don't recall where. the one on my car doesn't go up and down anymore without some help but I can still hear the motor trying to get it up and down. I've lubed it but it didn't seem to help. Any help finding that write up would be appreciated.

You probably need just a new mast. The mast rides on a plastic piece that has grooves in it that mesh with a gear inside the antenna motor box. Over time the plastic wears and stops gripping. Go buy a new mast, once you look at the new part you should be able to figure out how to replace the old part.

I don't know of any faq's but one thing I remember from replacing mine is that you need to have the radio on before you put the new mast in. Once everything is connected then you turn the radio off and it should pull the plastic piece from the new mast down and into the motor. This is of course something that I did over a year ago so don't quote me on this.

Honestly though, I did it in probably an hour with absolutly no previous experience so if you are mechanically minded you should be able to figure it out.

Replacing antenna

I've got a broken antenna on my 92max. The plastic piece with the grooves came out along with the piece. Any idea how much the mast costs? Also has anyone just replaced the whole deal with one of those fixed black plastic antennas? If so where did you buy it from? I tried fixing one that route on an altima once, but it had some weird connector and wouldn't work.

Is this an autozone or dealership part and do you remeber about how much it was?

Another Antennae Issue:

My motorized 94 antennae is working well except that it doesn't go all the way down. I tried lubricating it, but it didn't help. Any ideas how to fix it?

I have the same problem...do we just need to replace the mast? Will the old mast just pull out so then you can put the new one in? I saw several masts on eBay for about $12 or $15 for Maximas.

Antenna mast replacement isn't hard, I think I ordered mine from the dealership for less then a hundred bucks, probably way less. If the mast doesn't go all the way down then the plastic inside the mast is probably stripped the last few inches. Just replace the mast, it is a lot cheaper then replacing the whole antenna. Also I guess you could replace the whole antenna with one that does not rectract but honestly it isn't that hard to replace the mast and it looks much better. As for the masts on E-bay, I have no clue, buy at your own risk. I would call up your local dealership first though because the mast isn't that much.
