Adjusting Idle

I've seen responses in other thread's that you can adjust the idle yourself, I think that my idle is too low and I was wondering can anybody tell me how to do this. Any response would be helpful

the ecu has the idle adjustment screw. if lay down on the passenger floor and look behind the radio area you'll see your ecu back there. there is a screw on it and it says idle adjustment. that screw is also how you check the diagnostics.

Are you smoking CRACK

That screw is only to run engine diagnosis (I've never heard differently).

90inthemaking: Yes you can ajust the idle, its very simple. All you need is a long screw driver (either philips or flat head will work). The screw is located under the throttle body, maybe 5 or 6 inches down, its actually on the IACV (idle air control valve). I've found that one full c.c.wise turn will raise the idle in 100rpm increments.

I dont think the search is working, but if it were you could find an old thread on how to clean the IACV (by me), b/c thats whats really causing your poor idle. But its perfectly okay to raise the idle with the screw to compensate for the IACV. Raise the idle to at least 800rpm (not too much higher).

I forgot to mention the idle screw points forward (towards the radiator) and its a bit recessed (flush with the IACV).

I don't mean to sound ignorant but what is the throttle body?

Actually we have different engines, wait for someone with the vg engine to reply.

i'm sorry but the little sticker right on the ecu says idle adjustment. i have two ecu's sitting on my table and they both say the same thing. check it out sometime (this goes for the vg engine)

i think about 700-800 rpm is good idle.

That sounds a little harsh considering there is an idle adjustment on the ecu. Atleast on the vg anyway. I can find out if you can adjust it on the ecu on the ve aswell.
