VG to VE tranny swap in 89 SE

I'm in the process of doin a VE tranny swap to my 89 SE. I've ran into some problem though. I cannot find any axles or hubs in any junkyards around here. I've searched all over the net too. Maybe that is why I got the tranny so cheap ($300) I was told is has the VSLD. I'm on a very tight budget so a dealer is outta the question. If anyone of you have any suggestions or have the parts I would need and are willing to sell then message me. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanx

I didn't think you could put a VE transmission on a VG motor

Maybe I'm wrong - but don't you need to change the hubs too? Doesn't the VE tranny use large dia. shafts?

y not just get reman ones from your local part store(autozone, pep boys etc.) pay the core and be done with it. this way you have two "new" axles. the core is usually like 50 bucks each

I have the VE tranny on my VG motor right now. I've been looking around for the hubs and shafts. I ran into some more problems. My dad called a Nissan dealership and they said that I will have problems w/ the tranny being used in my car. They said it has to do w/ the computer. Like they back up lights wont work, it wont starts sometimes, and some other ****. I have no idea why any of this would happen. I really need some help on this. I'd like to talk to somebody live like on a chat or AIM. cleming15 is my AIM name, if you can help plz add me so we can talk. Thx

the dealer is full of crap. there may be a few things you have to move around, such as the neutral and reverse indicator wires, but it's not that bad. get a VE and VG FSM and go to town on the wiring. that's easy stuff.

Go to town on the wiring? What all do you think would have to be done? I had the tranny in and all the sensors and **** plugged right in. I almost had the swap done but I was tired of waitin for my car to get done. The car would start and everything would work just fine. I just didn't have the money for the axles and didn't wanna wait on them to get here if I did. I pulled the VE tranny out tonight and plan on getting the VG back in tomorrow. The VE tranny swap is still one of my plans for the future. Any and all information would be helpful.

WTF?!?!?! you had the hard part done! we're talking like 30-45 minutes of chopping and splicing wires. it might have actually plugged right in, as Kaleb's car was a converted GXE (auto), and he had to do some wiring. your car may not have needed any wiring.

see my link above for where to get the spindles and stuff.. just get axles from a local parts store... buy the VE axles, and use your GXE axles as cores. they won't know !)%*(% about the differences in them by sight. looks like an axle to them and it fits in the box they sold the old one in, so it's fine for them.
you're about $200 in parts and 3 hours from being done.

I'm not seeing any link anywhere. I asked a parts store bout the axles and the drivers side is like $80 w/ a core. I'm not sure bout the other side. I had to find spindles from a junk yard which cost me $180. I'm takin them back Sat. I'm just putting the tranny swap on hold for a lil bit. I need to get my car back tomorrow. I took the VE tranny out tonight and will be putting the VG tranny back in tomorrow. I still plan on doin the swap later when I can get all the **** I need first. I was also wondering if I could just press some VE wheel bearing into my old hubs instead of buyin the whole spindle.

The link I posted above was for where to get the spindles. I pay $40 each for them locally. I have several worn out ones in the garage.

the problem is that it's the hubs that are different. the spindle and wheel bearing are the same.. but the hubs are $90 each new, and special order from nissan (I had to order a set last night. not cheap)

the axles usually run $60 + a 60 core around here. so for $200, you'll have both spindles and axles you'll need for the VE swap.

I found 1 set of spindles on that site, but they didn't give a price. I went around to junkyards and found a set and they wanted $180. I bought them but I'm takin thme back today and get my money back. I gotta get a new axle for my VG tranny and I need a new tie-rod end now. Almost $50 for a tie rod end. Maybe **** is a lot more expensive around here. It seems almost impossible to find what I need and get it for a good price. I got a price on a SOHC axle today. It was $66 + $80 for a core. I could just imagine what the DOHC would be. Thx for all the help so far. It will be useful when the time comes around for me to do the swap again

the VE axles should cost the same, but are harder to find. they're special order at the parts stores here, but I can get them for $69 each.

when you go to car-part.com, search for more than jsut your state. go a couple hundred miles away... i.e. if you live in jersey, search NY and Mass and all those other tiny states up there that are all smashed together. (too damn many people in too small of an area! you guys have to build houses on top of your houses just to have a place to live! bah!!) anyway, pay a little to ship them and you can save a LOT of money.
(check Oklahoma. Apex Salvage is here in town and they have some of the cheapest parts I've seen)

damn you mean to tell me you had everything installed and the onlything keeping you was a set of axles. Bro 100 bucks is good for the axles go to a local autoparts store and get that part.. if not have an org member send you one. go to the parts for sale forum. you had all the hardest parts done, just alittle more time and you could have finshed
