cutting out...fuel pump???

My car started cutting out, especially at highway speeds. I thought it was the fuel filter, so I replaced that (yes, I put it in correctly) and it didn't seem to help.

Has anyone had this problem? Is it usually the fuel pump or is possibly ignition problem? The car doesn't die, it just acts like it is having problems getting fuel. It is intermittent, too.

Anything to look for, or other possibilities?

thanks

Well considering it could be any one of about 15 things, it's hard to tell.
You read this right?

I found lots of possibilities and I think it might be the fuel pump. However, I was hoping for something along the lines of what is the common things that happen to Maximas. I was more or less looking for a starting point to check out, with the most common thing first. I looked through a lot of different FAQs here, but since the site won't allow me to search, my hands are a little tied.

This is my second 92 SE 5-speed, and this is the first time I've encountered this problem, so I was just checking if anyone else encountered it too.

thanks for the link, too.

This may be the same as my problem, which I described some weeks ago as "lurching." Very unpredictable. Someone suggested a loose electrical connection to the fuel pump such that it might be jostled from time to time and interrupt the fuel flow momentarily. To check it, one must remove the bottom rear seat, which I've been unable to do. If I can ever figure out what's holding the seat in (the diagrams suggest some tabs, but I can't discover them), I'll check the connections. I've already replaced the spark plug wires and other secondary ignition parts (well, the dealer did it) with no improvement. And I replaced the fuel filter.

Check your Throttle Position Sensor. If it is bad or has a bad connection it will cause your engine to cut out like this.

I had the exact same problem. Mine was the Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAFS). It seemed to have problems getting fuel, it felt like it died, then it would kick back in and be fine for a while.

I would check the ignition coil in the middle of your rear bank. They are notorious for causing this problem. How did you not know that, moron?

This is an inside joke. Look at the date of the first post.

Mizeree was close. It was the rear passenger side coil pack and yes, I am a moron.

I thought it was the middle one?

Maybe that coil was what was making the "strange sound at high RPM"
