Be prepared to do alot of fabbing, and have a minimum of $1K sitting in the bank AFTER purchasing something like this. You'll need at least that to get it running right.

Just throwing a turbo on a normally aspirated engine is easy. Keeping running safely is antoher. Making it docile enough for street use is tough without blackboxes, tuning, and a thorough understanding of engine fuel, injection, and ecu operation.

In other words, it's not for the faint of heart, the unslilled or the un-bankrolled..

It sure would be nice if someone made a turbo kit for our cars. It would make life so much better!

even if there was a kit...most people wouldn't spend the money and if they did they'd spend even more just troubleshooting all the problems and buying the extras after install...

boosting a car is not easy and not cheap

Do you really want to spend $3-4K for a turbo kit? Yes?

Next question is do you really have $3-4K to spend on a turbo kit? Yes?

Do you have a second car to drive while you're putting the turbo kit on? Yes?

Ok, Do you have another $500 to get it dialed in? Yes?

Did you keep your second car to drive after you melted your pistons cause "If 5 psi is good, 15 psi must be freakin GREAT and I'll only do it once I swear!". BOOM!!!!

Did you leave $1000-1500 for a used engine transplant?

Good. Just a reality check.......

yup. but the whole thing about this forum is that everyone wants stuff, but when it comes down to putting up the money alot of people turn into no-shows all of a sudden thats why GDs on here rarely go through...pay to play, plain and simple. if you can barely get groupdeals for $2-300 items you'll never get commitment on a $3000 turbo kit, its not financially worth it to even consider developing one.

Oh I know ALL about group buys. I've run a web site and mail list for the 88-89 Supercharged MR2 (http://www.mr2sc.com) for about 7 years now and have done several group buys. Some were small ($20 for colored intercooler hose sets) some were larger ($400+ for supercharger pulleys). They are hard to pull off, and getting enough people in to make it worth it is hard. Right now I'm evaluating a product to base a group buy on. It's useful for ANY performance oriented car. I'd expect it to be easy to get enough people in, but prior experience leads me to think it'll be harder then it's worth.

A $3500 turbo or SC kit is just not going to happen for a decade old car. And if your talking SE (which I would be) the chances of any REAL performance parts (like cams, headers, replacement coil packs, etc) is almost nil. From here on out it's going to be people who are passionate about their MAX developing or adapting anything.

At some point I might think about doing a light pressure SC on my SE, but don't hold your breath.
