Soon to be new Maxima owner here.

Wassup peoples. Just wanted to post and say that I'm going to be aquiring a 89 Maxima in the next week. Has a new transmission in it, and it seems to run well, except needing new lower ball joints and a flex pipe. It has ~190K miles on it.

Just wanted to know what I should be aware of on a Maxima with that many miles, if I might need to replace anything else sometime soon.

At any rate, here is a link to some pics if you want to check it out.

Thanks in advance!

Timing belt... Timing belt... Timing belt...
Look like you are buying this from a dealer. You will not know the history. get the timing belt replaced. If this belt breaks you can bend engine valves. Spend another $300 now over $2000 later.

Check all the hoses too, in fact check anything made of rubber.

Also some people have had motor mounts go bad too.

I'm not buying it from a dealer. Buying it from my wife's dad. Someone came in with it and didn't want to pay for the transmission to be replaced, so I'm just paying him like $500 for it and the car is mine.

Blue wire on the turn signal lever is just a leftover scrunchie from the old owner. Car needs a good cleaning badly.

Thanks for the timing belt tip. Bent valves do suck.

When you replace the flex pipe, go with an aftermarket one such as www.warpspeedperformance.com, www.stillen.com or www.budgetexhaust.com. The aftermarket ones add ~10-15HP and are cheaper than an OEM one.

Yah, I was looking on carparts.com and all I saw was a Pacesh!tter which I know from my previous Neon owning experience that their stuff wasn't worth it. But I will check out the stuff from those places, Mizeree.
