Problem when it rains

Hey what's up guys.

I've got a 1994 GXE that seems to have some trouble when it rains(especially after sitting in long periods of heavy rain). The car fails to start, and just keeps cranking, occasionally almost starting and occasionally backfiring... But the point is that it doesn't start until whatever it is that gets wet drys off(I guess). After a lot of cranking, it will finally start and run for a bit. Sometimes it will get rough and stall. Other times it will just smooth itself out after running for awhile and then all is well.

This only happens when the car is sitting for long periods in heavy rain. I looked at the engine and everything looked dry to me. I dunno what it could be, I was hoping one of you had a similar experience and could tell me what I need to do to get it fixed.

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

Oh, and cool forums. Maximas rock!

replace the distributor cap and rotor...will cure your problem 98% of the time. The caps get small cracks in them and moisture will get in there and cause it not to crank...very common problem.
