Auto shifting

I searched, but couldnt really come up with anything solid. Anyway, I am having trouble with my shifter. Two things:

1. When I shift into drive, it will engage sometimes, and others not. If it dosent engage, pulling the **** towards the rear will engage it.

2. Sometimes when I put in in park and turn the car off then come back later and try to start it, the car dosent think it is in park. I have to shift into neutral and then back to park.

Not a big deal, but do you think the problem is just something loose under the shift ****, or something else? Any advice on what to look for/ do?

Thanx

There is a screw in the front of the shifter ( the shaft I believe) you have to remove the screw and then you can pull it a part. I have the same problem but I beleive I will use it as an excuse to buy the Levco shifter from Custommaxima. (in case the wife asks)

*edit* There is a wire running through the shaft also, I beleive it connects to the overdrive on/off button.
