When do you replace the timing chain on a VE?

Now that I have sucessfully used the org. to correct my minor maxima imperfections I am considering having the timing chains and guides replaced. They rattle a few seconds on startup but go away.
Some one said to use thinner oil, i use 5w50 syntec, i dont seee this as a cure all
Nissan says 100k to replace. I have never seen a VE chain snap(knock, knock).
So I guess at 160k am i sitting duck?

what does you guys think about VE timing chain replacement?

Re: When do you replace the timing chain on a VE?

When I went inside my VE at 113K I was pleasantly happy with the condition on the chains(3) and guides(few) I thouroughly check the chains for wear and tear, all within normal wear. The guides all had plenty of meat left, again just normal wear. Nissan may say change the chains at 100K but they're saying that for liability or to get money. Steel chains have been known to last a very long time, just ask those 60-70's Detroit guys.

no its not guaranteed for the life of the car.

chains are like everything else they will eventually wear out and they also stretch over time...hence the reasons for tensioners.

hopefully never.
If you do, its because its broken or because its noisy from being to loose, but thats not likely to happen.

Yes, all the chains and guides can be removed/replaced without pulling the heads.

Timing chains will last a long time, but ANYTHING that MOVES will wear, anything. (machines, human body, etc)
