anyone have valve train problems with their VE?
had abit of fender bender while back and dad has been taking care of it and i drove sister's car off to school.
Its been clattering real bad, and after playing arounnd and got a friend experienced with nissans look at it and found that its rear exhaust manifold leaking we are pretty sure.
rattling until car warms up, coming from rear of engine
mechanic tells my father that the "DE" engine was only made for 2 years and thats becuase it was met with alot of dislike because of how problematic it is. he says that the clattering sound is the valve train and would cost $800 to fix. wtf? so my dad is all over me for buying a car known to be problematic and im gonna be hearing hell because of this dumbass "nissan certified technician"
i have proceded to learn my father that there are many "DE" engines
but only through aim and im not sure he understood
but back to my original question? valve train? problematic? im not very mechanically inclined...but ive not heard much talk about valve train problems on here....unless its something related to the VTCs

It could be VTC's if it's making a loud tapping type noise. Really hard to diag. without hearing it.
All DE motors had a loud clicking noise, even when they were new. The valve train and injectors were the cause. I had numerous customers bring back their cars when they were new because they thought something was wrong with the eng.
Make sure that in the fender bender, the oil pan didn't get smashed up into the oil pump pick-up. This could be restricting oil flow if it is.
