Cattman y-pipe: What's really the problem?

I've been looking through all the threads and searching for the different Cattman y-pipe problems there are. Through out it all I still haven't got a clear answer that fits my question. I've heard recently that if you have a Cattman SS y-pipe installed on your GXE(VG30E) you won't have the scaping and clanging and noise you would have with the SE(VE30E) engine. Reason for this is that the SE engine is shaped differently and causes the y-pipe to hang lower or not fit as well. This opposed to the GXE engine that is a little more accomodating.

So, my first question is, are there any GXE owners with a Cattman SS y-pipe who are having this problem?
Second, is this really a universal 3rd Gen Maxima problem or is it specific to the engine type?
