creaking door

Does anyone else have this problem, or annoyance rather.
The driver side door of my max seems to make a creaking noise when im driving and apply the brake, or tap the brake abruptly.
Its not a big deal, im just wondering if its a common problem. I guess thats the next project after i repair my ac system. (hopefully before the summer is done )

Sounds like your door hinges/pins are worn to the point that there is now movement of the door at the hinge.

Open your door and grab the open end and see if you can move the door up and down. Any movement will indicate worn hinges.

Replacements are only about $15 ea if I remember right.

I have the same problem with my '93 and was convinced it was something inside the door but haven't had time to take it apart. It doesn't seem like there is enough play in the hinges to make the whole thing creak like that but maybe I'll replace the hinges anyway.

Its not a noise that occurs when i open or close the doorm it only happens when the door is closed and while driving I brake and accelerate. Its more of an internal creak. I can even feel the vibration when I drive with my hand outside the window and it rests on the door.
more to come...

Did you ever figure this out? I have the same problem. It's kind of a crunching noise on accelation. I know its in the door somewhere and probably the hinge, but there is no play in the hinge. If I hold the door slightly ajar no noise. Let me know if you have more info

It doesn't take very much play in the hinge for this noise to occur.

I had it, replaced the hinges and it went away.

Try taking a rag (in a ball) and place it between the inside door front and the dash, then close the door all the way. Go for a ride and see if the noise is still there. The extra pressure at that point will take up the slack in the hinge and the noise will probably not be heard.

Creaking door

I have that same sound on mine. I spray a little Lithium grease on the hinges and it goes away. The sound comes back after a few car washes, and I have to do it again.

That doesn't bother me as much as my hood scraping my windshield washer arms when I close the hood. That to me is a true mystery because I can't find a way to adjust my hood away from my arms.

Try the grease it works!

All the best,

Ron
