My current audio system is 1992 Bose cass/radio player. Can I replace
it with a 95+ HU? I think the harness connectors are different. How
can I do that? thanks.

 

the harness will have to be cut out and you will need to do a custom install.

you dont have to cut the wiring harness. You can buy a harness that will adapt it for you...just plug one end into the radio and the other into the harness and you will be good to go.

Now if you want to make your own harness (what I did) then do a search (in the upper right of the screen) on this topic and my name and you should find links to the wiring harnesses of both cars.

The easiest thing to do is buy a harness to adapt it though because if you dont you have to buy a regular harness and a harness from a 95 up nissan (got mine at a junk yard) to put them together.

Where to buy the harness adapter?
I found Wal-mart has the harness connectors for 3rd & 4rd maxima.
Do you think I can connect them togehter? But I don't think so.

 

no you cant connect them together because those are both female ends and you need a male end of a 95 up and a female end of a 94 down.

check on line at placed like schosche (or however you spell it) and metra or any other wire adapter place.

Go by your local sterio shop and they should have a book on harnesses and should be able to get you the converter you need.

 

Maybe it is easier to buy 2 harness ends and connect them together.
If I buy a male end harness for 92 harness, and a female end for 95+
bose radio, then what I should do? Just connect all the same color wires together? The number of wires of 92 is same as 95+?

they may be different colors, but they should have the same basic wiring.. as Mike said, do a search on it because he did it himself and has posted the info.

How is going to a junk yard, cutting out a 95 up harness, getting a radio harness from a store, cutting and splicing them together with the proper wiring, soldering then and covering them with heat shrink easier than going to a store and asking for an adapter to put a 95 up HU in the 94 older car...the price will be about the same.


The only reason I built my own is because I didnt know they made an adapter. After I made mine I found out they made the adapter.

Is the (95+ HU) a BOSE HU? If it isn't, you're going to need a BOSE/After-market converter.

 

northrabbit you can use a 95 bose radio head unit in your
92 maxima. I put a 97 bose head unit in place of my 93 bose
unit. What you need to do is buy a female harness for your car
which can be found at walmart, best buy stores that sell radio
products. next buy a 95 plus male adapter. follow the color
guide on the packages too connect the wires. now in my case I
bought male and female harness at best buy. I matched color to color
but ran to two wires I wasn't sure of. I found out the dimmer wires
need to be conneted even though the say positive on each. connecting
them you now can use the interior dimmer switch which now dims the
radio. and last you will have one wire left by it's self, it's a black
ground for the amps. I don't think it needs to be grounded but I lengthend it with extra wire and bolted it to the chassi of the car.
This should work my radio has run fine since I put it in three months
