which alternator

Guys-
I have a 92 maxima gxe. I'm trying to get an alternator for it, and when I call up they say there are two available. SOme ask me if I have a single or dual, other ask do I want the 80 or 90 amp. Will both fit? I'm not removing the old until I have a new one in hand, so I cant do a compare. Any responses with a part number or anything would be great, I want to get one today.
Thanks,
Joe

Nice collection of cars you have there, but to answer your question, if you have a VG motor, get the 90A. If it's VE, not sure, but I'd say 90A again. But considering you have so many other vehicles, I can't see why it's an issue for you to remove your existing alternator and take that in to your supplier? You're not making it any easier for yourself, that's for sure.

Thanks for the reply. I believe I have the VE motor, or VGE, I dont know. I have only put 50 miles on the car and had it for two weeks. Just purchased it from a friend to save gas on my commute to work as my land cruisers are pigs on gas and the wife drives the xterra, which is also pretty bad on gas.
Anyway, the reason I'm not pulling it first is cause I'm at work now and just want to do the job in one night. Buy a new one, put it on, and return the old one tomorrow. I dont want the car up on ramps/jack stands any longer than needed.
Thanks,
Joe

since it says you have a 92 GXE then you have a SOHC motor (single overhead cam)

You have the VG30E which is the SOHC motor. the VE was only available in the 92-94 SE and you state you have a GXE

That puts it into perspective for me since the Australian models varied compared to the US model in their same timelines.

In that case dude, DEFINITELY ask for the 90A alternator.
