Need major audio advice.

Here's the story. I recently purchased a 93 GXE that had previously had the Bose system. Somebody had replaced the factory Bose head with an old Ford headunit!! I bought a used Bose cassette deck (year) unknown. The previous owner had rerouted the speaker wire directly to the speaker bypassing the amps. I had the amps reconnected today and had the Bose deck put in. After I picked it up the installer said it must be the wrong year deck (probably earlier than '93) because it sits about a 1/2 inch too far back in the dash. Worse than that there is virtually no bass and very poor reception. Is this attributed to it being the incorrect year on the deck??

You might want to try posting this question in the Audio/Video forums. You'll probably get more knowledgeable help there.

Moving it is fine, just figured it would get better results here. Most of the Audio part is for newer models.

Get a new head unit, new speakers, a four channel amp, two subs, and amps for those. DOn't forget all the wiring, the cap, fuses, and other misc crap (like an alarm ).

I didn't want to spend that much, just wanted the base system to listen to while driving to work. Now I have basically nothing so I guess I have no choice.

Just go to ebay and get the right deck. Here are a couple, but there are always some on ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2424342138

the second one says the cd player is broken, but for a few bucks, I would think the tape player and radio work.

Thanks, I'm asking the seller if the radio part works at least. I would like the double din and all I really want is radio.

Let me ask this. I found out from pictures that the deck I got is from a 89-90 Maxima. If all my amps are hooked up and there is no bass could it be because of it being the wrong headunit (not '93)? Or are all of my amps probably bad?

proboly bad amps i dont think a head unit could do that but you will proboly spend more on getting the bose to work than just slappin a 100$ radio in and bypassing the bose amps

Bypass has to be done at the speaker locations? No special harness available so that door panels don't have to be taken off?

The way I look at it is, you can spend all the money you want on your gear but if you don't pay attention to polarity especially when you're routing around those amps, then you'll have no bass. Those Bose head units are pure crap.

I know that Crutchfield used to make some sort of converter for use w/ Bose and an aftermarket head unit. Never used it but I assume its intention was to bypass the amps in order to alleviated the impediance difference. Also, if the polarity of your connections has not been matched, you will have no bass and lots of cracking. Sounds like you should reverse all your connections before you buy anything else.

It was done by an installer so I assume it was done correctly. There is no cracking sound, just no bass. I won a 93 deck on Ebay so we'll see what happens.
