what is it??

i dont wanna sound like a complete idiot, but what is the metal tube that runs across the top of the valve cover on the VE???

are you talking about the fuel rail maybe?

i know its not the fuel rail... its connected to the intake pipe by a rubber hose

That is a good question. The FSM shows it in a few places in the EM section, but it never does mention what it is nor what it does. Possible PCV? Anyone have an idea?

i have no idea what it is... i just wanna know cuz the rubber hose that is connected to it is startin to tear

it is just a metal extension of a vacuum line.

it has something to do with maintaining proper crankcase pressure or something.

What awsm66 said. I forget the exact term on it, but it connects the valve covers to the intake to recirculate any gasses that build up under the valve covers. just go to nissan and order the hose. they won't be but a few bucks, and they'll have pretty pictures on the computer that you just point and say "that's it. give me one of those."
