bulb question...kinda stupid (im still dumb)

bulb question...kinda stupid (im still dumb)

when changing the bulbs from the tail lights are you allowed to touch the actual bulb?!? and are the apc super whites legal?

You can touch the actual bulb. Dont be surprised if it explodes and takes off one your fingerse though

haha, I've just heard NEVER touch Xenon headlights, it cuts the life in ½

There is no such thing as a stupid question. It is best to ask (and maybe get flammed) than to make a mistake. The only thing that you can gain is knowledge--and you can never have too much of that!

yep like others said, don't touch the bulbs. the natural oils in your fingers will cause the bulb to die prematurely. and as for the legality of the bulbs themselves, it does say on the box "for off road of show use only."

The reason why you can't touch the headlights bulbs when installing them is that when you touch them, some oil from your skin will stay on the glass. As the bulbs burn very hot, the portion of the glass with your oil in it will not expand at the same rate as the other, clean part of the glass, causing it to break.

The other bulbs (such as the taillights) suffer far less from this effect because they don't burn as hot. But you might want to avoid touching it anyway, it might prolong its life, who knows.

Easy fix: get a pair of latex or nitril gloves and install w/o concern.
