WTF!!! listen to this.
I was talkin' to a maxima guy today and he told me that he's swapping his engine for some australian vg-t with 280hp. that's not the vg30et engine. could it be the vg30det?
anyone ever heard of this engine.
I know. I know --- yet another turbo post.
But this doesn't seem like one of the usual turbo posts so cut me some slack pls.

so there's no way...even if he was blind...that he could think a vg30dett would be a direct drop in.

An Australian's opinion
Sorry, I don't have a jpg of a steaming turd
Ok, let me give you a little Australian history on VG-based vehicles:
Nissan Patrol - VG33E (duh!)
Maxima - VG30E (duh!)
Z31 300ZX - VG30E and VG30ET (duh again!)
Z32 300ZX - VG30DE and VG30DETT (duh some more!!)
See the pattern? We have in Australia exactly the same f__king S_IT as every other country out there, more or less.
Now then, as we all know, the problem with just slapping in a VG30ET motor, even a Jap import, is the oil pan, primarily. I've seen the Jap import Z31 motor and it's perfectly identical (as far as I've seen from a quick 30 secs look I had at a wrecker) right up to the intake manifold. In the case of that particular motor, you'd simply swap the oil pans and then just plug in all the hoses and whatnot. I can't say I've looked at the water cooling system in detail to see if the crossover piping is the same and all, but I'd imagine so.
Once this dude is finished pulling your chain and I've completed my project, I'll have some photos up which you can throw in his face and tell him exactly how to build a clone of 420FWHP/500HP (crank) Mad Max.

Rebuild stock motor, nitride hardened stock crank, Ross Racing forged pistons (8.5:1 compression), Total Seal rings, Z32TT con-rods, Ridgecrest copper head gaskets, ported and polished heads, stock cams, 3-angle cut standard valves, 86 Z31T (auto transmission) oil pump, custom exhaust (naturally), pipework, MoTeC M800 ECU, Nismo 16600-RR701 555cc injectors, Garrett GT35R ball bearing turbocharger, Walbro GSS341 fuel pump, Jacobs Nitrous Mastermind, Jacobs Pro-Street ignition system, Magnecor spark plug leads, Autolite spark plugs, relocate battery to boot/trunk, replace crap sensor and injector connectors with Mercedes connectors (cut slit for locating dowel where appropriate), teflon coated wire (20A rated) leading up to connectors, XRP insulating sleeving for heat protection, Earls plumbing (-8 fuel supply, -6 fuel return), TiAL 46mm wastegate and BOV, Aeromotive A1000-6 fuel pressure regulator, Flexane 80-filled engine and transmission mounts, Level 10 PTS Stage 3 transmission, 50 shot of NOS.
Now go put it all together like I am

If you consider all those ingredients (transmission and all), I've paid approximately $34,000.
But if I were to consider the turbo project on its own since I've had the Level 10 transmission, NOS and Jacobs equipment long before, I've spent about $23,000 so far.

SOMEONE here has understood me, finally!!
It's all about being unique. I've had the car for so long, it's another part of me (yes, I can hear the feminazis cracking their typically female jokes already). I like the shape and size of the vehicle, which is why I'm not keen on a Skyline or 300ZX.
Furthermore, I need not remind you people of the reliability of the Z32's. An engine bay so packed and cramped is a sign of trouble if you don't work on the motor ASAP. Aside from that, I like 'em but it's not an everyday driver then. I would consider a 350Z for a weekend car but not a daily driver as is the Maxima. I'm building it to enjoy it. I've always called Max a "couch on wheels" and comfort was always the first thing for me before I became a petrolhead and then desired both comfort and power.
And yes, the figure is in Australian dollars. Sorry for not clarifying that.
