increase timing (????????????)

went to a mechanic today, i asked him if i could increase my timing by 5 degress, he said its the worst thing you can do, ull run into many problems in the long run.....what do you guys think???????/

id like to know what kind of problems? just run high test and treat your car normally u will be fine. my brother is a mechanic he says its fine, and i wish i only could get away with something with out his approval lol

what kind of performance gains can i get if i do this and i have a vg auto gxe, will it work on my car?

You won't feel much if you just got your car, but if you've had it for a while then you will definitely feel a little more jump when you hit the pedal, just basically adds more low end torque to a car that has tons already. More effective on smaller cars.

it can be bad...just make sure you run 91+ octane fuel and you will be fine....

I was going to increase mine to 20 this week. I always run 92 octane. what problems would there be?

I had mine bumped up a couple degrees, to 18, I had to run at least 91 octane, otherwise shed ping. Supposedly , according to my mechanic, im supposed to get better mileage, maybe not that noticeable, but better, and better throttle response. But since My Max is still acting up from time to time due to some other prob/malfunction, I dropped the timing back down.

But it wont do any harm, as long as you use higher octane fuel.
My turbo is running 15deg. retarded, but thats a totally dif. setup.(mitsubishi mirage, No nissan sorry)
