Going to the track soon, which way to run?

Hey guys,
Hopefully I will be making it out to the track before 8/21/03, because thats when a friend is leaving for college, and he wanted to go out and see what his car can with some friends before he leaves on the 22nd.

As it sits, my car is on jack stands, but hopefully I will have my clutch arrive on wednesday, and installed wednesday night, and then I'm going to make a few trips to Mt. Rainier using the back roads to try and rack up 750+ miles.

The car is completely stock, except I'm putting in a Fidanza and Exedy. I'm wondering if I should take the time before hand and finish porting my lower intake (and maybe do the upper for the 5spd, if I have time) and maybe port the throttle body abit, or if I should just leave it completely stock and do some runs, I havent even checked the spark plugs yet.

Also, should I go there and do some runs then run some seafoam threw it and do some more runs and see if there is any difference (i know it depends on engine condition, but still).

I'm kind of thinking about leaving this trip as a "baseline" then going back later so I have something to compare it to. hmmmmmm

id run it just to see what you come out with so next time after you do another mod to the car you can compare it and see if it made a diference.

Re: Going to the track soon, which way to run?

Why are you asking us for advice? You're the one who got a NA VE Auto to run 14.8 with just an intake. Just do the same tinkering you did with your VE Auto and you will be running an EASY 13.6 in the 1/4 mile with your VE 5spd. Good luck at the track.

Why don't you think you'll be hitting that time anytime soon? All you have to do is do the same free tinkering as you did with your VE Auto and you'll be running 13.6 EASY in the 1/4 mile. A VE 5spd is about 1.2 seconds faster than a VE Auto. Since you ran 14.8 with your VE Auto with nothing but intake and some free tinkering, you should be able to run 13.6 very easily with your 5spd. Right?

No I'm serious. Doesn't my reasoning sound very logical?

MrGone, you haven't answered my question.

If you ran 14.8 in a VE Auto with just intake, then you should be able to do 13.6 EASY in your VE 5spd. Am I right or am I wrong?

Assuming that this is true (If you ran 14.8 in a VE Auto with just intake, then you should be able to do 13.6 EASY in your VE 5spd. Am I right or am I wrong) the hole 14.8 with only intake. See im new to the forum so i missed the hole post about 14.8. I cant imagine how this is possible unless there is this much of a gain over the VG I my self own a 90 VG with Ported Plenum and throttle body, CAI, Warpspeed Y Pipe , 1991 300ZX turbo injectors(NEW) , Vortec FMU, Weiland Fuel Pump, Apexi Tuner and i can pull 14.5 with a auto, now if i could done this only duing some intake work man do i feel stupid!! So MrGone ur teillin me that i could have ran this with only a CAI if this is true u need the following ~Jon

NA = normally aspirated. ie no nos, turbo, sc etc... We are trying to tell mr. gone that what hp he would need to run at for his VE auto to run a 14.8 1/4 mile. Since you have a VG, you have 160hp vs the VE 190hp. So I would say you would need to AT LEAST get to the VE's stock hp of 190hp at the flywheel. Probably more like 205hp at the flywheel as Aaron has mods to get him into the sub 15 range.

Reasoning is logical assuming the cars and everything were the same except for the mods to them. I responded to your other post, and would like to drop the whole thing with my 93 auto, I cant explain it, and the car is gone.

I'll let you know what I run in the 92 when I can get to the track, but right now I need to get a transmission mount welded, find some matching screws for the rest of the transmission and passanger axle, get some gear oil and install the tranny. I havent even driven my 92 yet and I've owned if for about 2 weeks.

90GXE->SE, please tell us how you ran a great time like that. The record for VG Autos is 14.5 with a 75 shot of nitrous and several bolt ons with street tires. Did you run this 14.5 normally aspirated? VG30E that you have is 160 stock, mine is 190 stock, I am estimated at about 230 HP at the flywheel. At the wheels, I have about 180 atleast!. My car also weighs about 3050lbs. Stock is 3200.

I'd like to know more about your car since you are a newbie.

14.5?? with all those pointless fuel mods the only thing he'll run is rich. we already know what it takes to get a n/a VG auto into the low 15s *cough* Skymax *cough* and he went all out. even a mild cammed VG auto won't break a mid 15...so why even waste time with this BS. drive through....
