A mysterious thing in my trunk?
It's there to eliminate any creeks the car may cause...U see the car undergoes alot of different vibrational modes such as bending and torsion that the naked eye cannot see of course. These phenomenoms can cause creeks that we typically hear for example in the older Toyota 4Runners...common problem for them.
It's not a counterweight, it's a vibrational dampener. Much like Dynamat, it adds mass to the body panel it's attached to (which is a very important one) in order to lower the resonant frequency of the panel. If you have enough sound deadening back there, removing it won't hurt a bit. It'd be cool to modify your sub box to fit around it though.
What if your max never came with that counter weight thing? Its kinda weird that my SkyBlue 90 SE had one but my Pearl White 90 SE doesn't have one. I lifted up the carpet underneath and there are no mounting bolts or anything and the carpet if flush with the rear seats.
UMM? My question is....where do the bolts land after you take off the nuts? I took one of the nuts off to attach a ground wire for my system, the bolt fell through and now it's gone! I'd hate to remove the other nuts in fear I'd have four bolts rattling around somewhere under the car!

sorry my fault, i didnt look at date
look in your trunk, there should be this little bump where teh back seat meets the floor, (little as in 2 or 3 inch by 10 " wide) if you take off that plastic cover (which is carpet colored) you will see this... thing... its big and rubberishy and heavy

I always thought it was a GXE vs SE thing where GXEs had them but SEs didn't which is true for my 89GXE and 93SE but if skymax did have one if one of his SEs then maybe I'm wrong
