300ZX engine swap to 5 speed SE?

Ok sorry Jeff. New topic. I was thinking if i was gonna go for performance i could get a cheaper maxima with alot of miles on the engine and just replace it with a 300zx engine. is this feasable? i think i saw that they were both 3.0L and had the same number with the cc at the end or whatever. Shut up im learning bout these. So would it be possible to do this and if so how much would the engine and swap most likely cost? Would it just be better to get a stock with the VE in it and put a turbo and NOS in it or whatever. cheaper better whatever? give me some ideas. thanks

i think that if you want the most power you should put in a motor from a skyline with nos and a supercharger on top of the turbo setup.

Heh wow man I'll warn you now (and dont take this personally) you're not gonna stick around long with questions like these which is a shame because you seem to have that enthusiasm to build a good car.

But no....just to answer all the other default swap questions...no swap is going to be practical in any Maxima really (3rd gen + at least).

VG-T isnt really a 'swap' so I'm not counting that

Bottom line your best/most practical bet is easily buy a VE 5spd and mod it. Low 14's arent enough for ya then boost it.

NOS is most practical boost....Turbo would be totally custom yet surely do-able.

I see...hey these questions are practical for someone who has only known anything about american cars...i didnt know if it did or not...figured i could ask people who did know. anyway...doesnt NOS mess up your engine after a while? I heard it did but maybe you or someone else knows..

Not when used and installed properly, no (and not over-used)

However, I've seen lots of cars start to lose compression after a couple years on the bottle.

hmm...oh yeah and what was that vg-t thing? not sure...thing is that i have a problem with how many miles are all over these cars...most are around 100,000 and that kinda sucks cuz i want this car to last me and i am worried that a 10+ year old engine is not gonna be able to handle that much longer and along with NOS and such. I was thinkin about how much a newer maxima engine with like 50K miles would set me back and i would hope that is possible...or would a engine with 90k to a 110 k still be alright with all the mods and age and nos and all

Donald (dmonzta) has 270k on his modded VE 5spd so that should tell you something right there...

Mileage isnt the big issue, it's maintenance and condition. If an engine with 110k checks out good and is in spec compression wise there's no reason you couldnt run an appropriate shot of NOS on it...

VG-T = VG Turbo....do some searching on google there's tons of info out there about all this stuff

Most of the Maxs you see in the dyno forum running 14s have over 100k+ miles on them. If the car is properly maintained it will run 250k+ easy. But don't expect to not change common wear and tear parts, ie: Water pump.

*Edit* Man James, your fast....

High mileage isn't really a problem, if the car was maintained properly then the engine should be good for 200,000+... my car has 152,xxx miles and the original clutch is still going strong

ahh i see...well im just saying...if i get a car with 110K miles on it...i need it to last me at least 4 to 5 years...(i estimate ill put around 10 to 15K miles a year on it). Nothing really matters otherwise...im gonna mod this car to perfection in every aspect. And the thing is...a better question now is where are all the se 5 speeds??...cant find too many on autotrader or car.com...im gonna keep looking but if anyone knows of other car sites such as these or places with a 92-94 SE 5 speed please let me know...thanks

just keep looking man and dont let the milage scare you, like these guys have said the 3rd gen is a great car and I have one with 157,000 and one about to turn 200,000. stay with the 5 spd. i replaced the tranny at 180,000 on the auto, thats the only problem i have ever had with ANY Nissan. i also own two nissan trucks. great cars, and a little Nitrous never hurt anything

I haven't had many problems with nissan, they build good engines... I have 2 sentras and a maxima and I have never had any problems with the engines, other than a few seals needing to be replaced... I just got my second sentra yesterday with 154,xxx miles, thew a new battery in it, and it started right up after sitting for about a year... now all I need are some doors for it...

Heh, heh

I'm almost afraid to ask but how the heck does a car end up not having any doors?

I bought the sentra as a parts car for the doors. I pulled them off to replace the rusted out doors on my other sentra and never bothered to put the crappy doors back on the parts car. It's hella fun without them anyway, it's kinda like a golf cart...
