I have not found a single VE owner that has an oil pressure gauge installed. I just want to know what pressure other VEs are running at idle, 3K and 6K rpm. I know what the FSM says and I'm very close to in spec, but my pressure gauge is pegged at the max (100psi) at anything above 4800 rpm at WOT.

It sounds like way too much pressure for a normal motor. I've found some VQ guys that do 85psi at redline. But what about the VE guys? Thanks.

 

use the search, I checked my oil press and monitored it. it may be in the general forum.

The test search sucks. I searched for MEVI and it returned 3 crappy old threads from 2000. It's useless as usual.

Yeah, have tried MANY times to use the search. I even tried when the search function of the real Maxima page worked great. I found nothing about VE oil pressure.

I am interested in what you found. I more interested in what kind of pressure you were at while WOT at 6K. Thanks again Eric for helping a fellow VE Auto member out.

 

Well I didnt test the oil press. at full throttle. It was more to make sure the base oil press. was where it should be. I was doing this b/c I was installing the Y pipe and while I was taking things apart I considered dropping the oil pan replaceing the oil press regulator. After doing the oil press test I found that it was pretty damn high, well above what the manuel said the minimum should be. Since it was so high, I brought that info to bills attention, since the oil filter bypasses oil when its above 10-13psi (approx). I still dont have the exact numbers, but when the engine initially warms up and the idle is high, the press was around 30psi. It then dropped down like it should when the engine fully warmed up. I'll find the exact numbers.

I found that during ANY normal driving that oil would be bypassing the filter.

 

Yeah, my pressure is about 30psi when my car is warming up. But the FSM says to check pressure when it's fully warmed up. And my pressure is about 12psi when warm. The higher I rev, I higher the pressure.

So, you HAD an oil pressure gauge? You just hooked it up and then took it out? Thanks for the info.

 

I hooked a guage up to the oil low pressure switch port. It was only a test setup to see that the pressure was good. I didnt drive the car with that setup.

If it's any consolation, Aaron, I bought one, but have yet to install it. I know that isn't much of a help at all, but I'd be interested in finding out this info, as well, so I'll know what I need to look at/for once I install mine.

 

Well, I had a time trying to find a way to hook up my gauge.

Here's a tip: There's not enough room to hook up both your stock oil pressure switch and your oil pressure sending unit. It's too tight of an area. Also, don't trust the mechanical oil pressure gauges. Plus, the nylon tubing is too short in most cases.

Remove your stock oil pressure switch after you drain the oil. It's easy. Then, buy a metric adapter from autozone. Since my gauge is Sunpro, Sunpro also makes a metric adapter kit. In that cheap kit, you'll find the correct fitting to screw right into the block. Seal your threads with gasket maker or thread sealer. Leave your stock OP switch unplugged and secure it somewhere so it doesn't dangle.

Your oil pressure warning light shouldn't come on. Mine didn't. It's a quick and easy job if you know how to change your oil and have the right supplies and tools.

Oh yeah, in order to loosen the OP switch, you'll need a 27mm socket. Most sockets that size will be deep enough. Without that socket, I couldn't come close to completing the job. Hope this helps.

 

You know, this post reminded of something. Why did Nissan do away with a full set of gauges in their cars/trucks anyway? Must have been a money saving thing, but honestly, how much could two more gauges cost? My '88 Max had a voltmeter and oil pressure gauge, but my '92 doesn't. My '93 Pathfinder didn't have them, but the earlier model year Pathfinders did.

 

same for american cars...my '86 cutlass had oil pressure and voltmeter gauges....later years olds and gm cars dropped them as well

 

Shoot, most american drivers can't even pay attention to the gas gauge. Nevermind the other guages. Hence the term: "idiot light."

 

Do any of you guy have an oil pressure gauge in your VE? I didn't think so. Stop whoring!
