Painting Plastic - Anyone done it before?

I have a black interior and thinking about painting some interior bits (gauge trim piece, power window switch areas in particular) a gun metal or silver like color.

The effect I am looking for is like the gauges from a WRX (or any recent Imprezza) and the switches like from a Matrix.

Any recommendation on what paint to use? Folia Tec came to mind, but those cans are $$ and very hard to find a store that sell them.

Krylon came out with a "fusion" series that is formulated just for plastic, but I can't find the color I described above. I thought about regular spray paint also. Any thoughts?

Thanks

if you're painting the piece off the car (which i assume you will) then please use a paint that has some flex mixed in it or else when you go and mount it the paint will just crack right off.

if you have a compressor you could rent the other tools and spray it with the color of the car, that what I did on my gauge bezel. And I used that fusion on my nitro car and it worked really well, dried up nice and fast.

Yes I have painted my interior plastic pieces. I used the actual automotive paint I used on my car though. I have an air compressor and spray guns though. This is the best way but it is more expensive to just go out and buy the primer, adhesive promoter, paint and clear. I had this stuff already since I am painting my car.

Good luck and just take your time.

i love the way that paint looks! you're car will look incredible when you're finished painting.

i've also got a spare interior to work with, so maybe i'll try and do something crazy with it.

couple layers of primer, 6-7 coats of the paint and 6-7 coats of clear coat, all done with wal mart spray paint. doesnt look like awsme66 but i like it and it only cost bout 10 bucks.a nice temporary solution till the car gets repainted with the body kit and then i will have them redone like mikes
