Engine installation Q - where does this bracket belong?
Engine installation Q - where does this bracket belong?
I'm stumped. We've finally concluded that the 2 black ones are the engine-transmission supports, but what about the brass one along the top? Does it ring any bells with you guys?
And while we're at it, here's a pic of my completed motor so far (500hp handling) ... but I have a feeling that I'll either be grinding a small portion away from those black brackets or changing the oil sump because the -10AN fittings I had welded onto the sump were located directly underneath the damn things! Stupid engine builders!

i beileve the top bracket goes at the very bottom of the tranny to hold the ypipe but i didnt put mine back on i dont think its nesisary since the warpspeed pipe doesnt use it
and also isnt the collant feed pipe in the wrong direction

You mean the crossover pipe? Nah, it's where it should be. It only bolts in one way with the thermostat housing, after all.
As for the network of pipes/hoses on the transmission side, yeah, that wouldn't have been fun to figure out. Glad I took pics as I was dismantling the motor. Shame I didn't have the camera handy when my mechanic mates were helping with the removal of the motor+tranny.
Thanks a bunch for that dude.

Hmm.. from just doin mine recently i dont remember seeina peice like that at all which leads me to believe its something in the tranny since i have an automatic.. it looks like thats a mount for a connector on there too... hmm wish i could help ya out more man..
but yea those two black ones definitly go on bottem and mount to the tranny, but i dont know what that doodad is commin off that one...

Thanks for the compliments.
If you had an automatic, however, the point is that mine is an auto as well (Level 10 PTS Stage 3, so I'm not looking at going manual any time soon!).
I think Sub's clue leading to the exhaust mount from the bottom end of the tranny or something to that effect seems to make sense. Uncle Pete has suggested that it could most likely be the lower cover for the tranny to hide the flexplate where you can unbolt it from the torque converter.
So far, it's 2 - 0 for the bottom portion of the tranny.
And yeah, that oil sump is definitely going. I'm picking up another one and I'm also getting another water pump because that one is for a Z31 300ZX and there's no way the pulley will suit (unless I go custom) because the Z31 uses V-belts and it's so big it'll hit the air con idler pulley.
So stuff custom, I'm going straight for a proper Maxima pump instead 3#-)

they look like the brackets that bolt on to the block using two bolts and the tranny bolts on to that using 3 or so bolts. the brass looking one would go on the bottom of the tranny/block where there are two studs sitting there. the brass one is for the splash guard bolt. i could be wrong since i'm basing this off of a manual tranny maxima but that is what those appear to be.

Relax son. I thought you were thinking of Australian motors being in another direction or something 3#-)
Motor should hopefully be going back in on Monday night so I'll keep you all posted on what happens. Hopefully I won't have to remove the hood to raise it up from the floor with the hoist.
