engine control module '89

My '89 is either dead or comatose. It won't idle, but will run at high RPM. Then it stalls when you back off the accelerator. My mechanic says the engine is flooding itself, but fuel pressure reg, plug wires, cylinder pressure, injector sensors are all OK. He says it's in the 'computer' (i.e., ECM). He did not check the rotor or distributor. He found no error codes, but could not check the actual ECM. I do not want to do the dealer thing and install a new ECM. Any ideas what can cause the injectors to flood? Can I get a used ECM and plug it in to see if that does it? Any advice to get it running again is appreciated.

ECM? Hmmmm. You may want to check some other items first. I have never heard of the ECM going bad. Like Subs said, you may want to check the IACV and some vacumn hoses. While checking on e-bay, check into a FSM. It will cover all of these kinds of problems.
