squealing stops when brakes are applied

Ok i have squealing that stop when i apply the brakes. Now I have no idea what this could be. Also I might have a leak in my brakeing system. I was just wondering if you have bad pad or bad rotors do you lose brake fluid and could this be causeing my loss of fluid or i just have a leak in one of the line.

just grab some anti-squeal compounds from the autostore, Permatex makes some pretty good ones. and apply it to the back of your brake pads.

Brake squeal due to one of three things:
1) dust buildup between front brake pads and piston - anti-squeal on back of pads will stop squealing.
2) pads will start squealing when they need replacing - after the squealing comes graunching
3) rear brakes shoes start squealing when they're worn out.

If you suspect brake fluid loss, check rear wheel cylinders - very common (drum brakes), brake caliper pistons (never seen it in 18 years of wrenchwork), brake booster seals (fluid can leak back into car thru pedal although not common in Jap cars). Also check all brake hoses esp for signs of cracking and all brake line / hose connections. Brake lines don't leak - you'd have no brakes after a quarter mile if they did.

thanks for the info. Im pretty sure i need new rotors with new pads. I was just wondering which ones to get. I know that i want to get hawk brake pads but dont know if i should go with oem rotors or go with after market ones but im really not looking to go crazy with my brakes.
