New Mods Added, And little Problem with My max

Well in the quest to add more HP to my ever so powerdull stock VE motor, i finally got my ASP UDP installed, Man all i can say is that its the cheapest mod that make a difference. I was at th mechanics shop today, refered by Diego aka d-sta, and had a couple of things done.

My install went as planned, and as advised i changed my oil crank seal, man it was totally gone, oil all over the place. on the cv the controll arm, gez, what a mess. The old pully came out with no problem, Now the new one was placed with antiseeze lubracante. The fit ment was tight. You had to use a wooden block and a hammer, very snug fit. The belts i got from the org via searching and using AAron92se belt size from autozone was perfect. Installed everything, and yet something i had been needing to do for a while, O2 sensor.

For those that dont know, I used to bottles in two tank fulls back to back of Chevron with Techtron, and it worked so well that i damaged my 1st bank Fuel Injector. Replaced that a couple of months ago, and still getting crappy gas mileage. Before adding the fuel cleaning i got 400 miles to the tank highway, and that is with some high speed runs, and stop and go traffic.

After changing the injector i still got about 260+- mixed highway and mostly city driving. SO my next move is the O2 Sensor.

I went ahead and got that while i was at the shop. Man the O2 Sensor was so tough to take off the wiring harness. After getting it off inspection of the sensor revealed that it was all black and full of siut(sp) and was very bad shape.

Installed my sensor and everything ready to go. Also i just installed my WSP Y Pipe and Greddy SP catback, and everytime i would gas the max, it would rattle. The fault was with a bolt that was rubbing ont he metal exhust. YAY!! fixed!!..

Unplugged the battery to let the ecu reset.

Ok time to start the max, lets see the power. Click Click. WTF, hrrm, maybe the battery terminal was loose. OK . Attach. Click click.. WTF!!! we put the max up and check to see if the udp is moving freely, Yup!. O2 Sensor wouldnt cause it. Hrrm Must be the battery. Cleaned off the connections and contacts. Click Click. Ok Boost it, Click Click. At this point i was very worried. Hrrm..

Well enough looking at the max looked at the battery. Andy opened the battery caps, hrrm DRY!!!!!, ok so there is the problem. Note: Battery and O2 sensor let alone of other mechanical stuff on the max looked orginal!!

So he told me to buy a bottle of seltzer water. Got that and put it in, and charged the battery up, Bingo Let there be life!

Side note: During the installation i was charging my cell phone and had the key in the ignition on the acc possition for a few hours, Killed the battery, So it was my fault. Took her for a spin and damn POWER!!!! Best HP Mod for the buck.

I came back to the shop to let him know the great job he did, and i did an oil change, and we discussed about the lifter sticking noise that i have. He said we could try something he has and worked on other cars. This oil that you add to the oil that sticks and cleans and lubricates the lifters and bonds to the metal and lasts for 50,000 miles, expensive bottle. I said DO IT!!!, i didnt care, plus anything to get that clicking noise away. Got my oil change and added the stuff. Less noticeable Clicking, but he stated that it should take a few days. Either way i was very happy with his service. Lot of information in his part.

Now on to the rest of my day. Drove out to Long Island and got myself a local hot spot sandwich. Driving out there was fun, and easier, Maxima ran like a champ.

I got back to the NYC, and i stalled out somehow, and went to turn on my max, and click!!!! DAMN!!! Battery didnt charge or couldnt hold it any longer, Dead battery sindrome. I was going to look for help, but i forgot that i can push start my max...lol!!!!

So i got help and pushed started her. Second gear and it was making this noise that i wanted to start, gave it gas, and pushed in the clutch at the same time, Started up. I was also running low on gas. Got to the gas Station and turned off my max, big mistake. Filled up and had to push her again. Drove around and wentto Auto Zone.

I purchased a Optima Yellow Top battery, 159.99+ 8.625% tax=179.94!!! Ouch.

Oh well. i wanted one and that was next on my mod list since i will be running 800watts rms 2 HE2 12inch subs.

Now i am getting another Optima battery from Ange on the org for 155 picked up, that means i am taking this one back to Auto Zone.

Now i switched the battery, every thing started up quickly.!!! I am guessing that the old Nssan Battery Was dead for a long time, and i have been running on my alternator.

Results for today, UDP installed O2 Sensor Installed and new Battery!!

As for the Battery mod, i feel better performance. I think that the battery is giving the spark plugs a better spark, and my lights, HIDs are brighter, and my stereo is clearer and more powerfull.

Not a bad day, but wish i didnt have to spend 400+.

Now guys, how are your day today!!

it took him about 1/2 an hour, but the most waiting was for the oil seal and the O2 sensor that he ordered. After that it was all gravy, power tools are the best way to go. total time was about 1 1/2 hours b/c of the problems that i had. other than that it should be a fast install if you know what your doing. He charged me a friend rate which i should not discuss, sorry, dont want to sound like a jerk. after all i tip him very well. the total job was around 170 with tip, for the O2 sensor oil seal and labor. then additional charges for the oil change and oil solution was about 40 so all and all 210 i figure. and total time about 2 hours for everything.

I'm glad you're happy paying $100 an hour to let someone else do easy maintenance on your car!
O2 sensor, UDP, and oil seal are all easily something you can do at home.

He doesn't have a place to this himself Matt. Doing it on the streets of NYC ain't fun if he tried it. Not everyone is gifted like you.

There aren't garages that you can rent so that you're not out on the street? around here, you can rent space in a shop by the hour or day. Hell, you can even just get a space inside a parking garage for a few hours and do it then. I'd much rather pay $20-30 in parking or shop rental fees than to pay someone else to work on my car.
oh well. it's all a matter of what you want. I could have saved $500 per month had I lived in an apartment in the middle of town with no garage, but I chose to move out into the suburbs and pay a lot more for a house so I would have garage space to do what I need. you're not stuck in town unless you choose to be. admittedly, that's going a little farther than bolting on a few mods, but you get my point.

Not everyone feels like taking the time or has the time, Im sure I could do alot of stuff to my car that I pay other people to do, but for me its cheaper to pay someone who knows how to do it. This way it doesnt take up my time and I dont lose money. Plus Izzy has no place to do it. And in NY its not easy to find people who will rent out space in their shops, because there isnt much extra space, and they probably make more money doing other paying jobs. Its different around here, there are even signs outside of auto parts stores saying your not allowed to work on your car in the lot. And why wear gloves? Mabey its so when you have to get in the customers car you can just throw the gloves out and not get their stuff all greased up, But you were just kidding about that right?

bah...

it's a time vs money fector. do you earn $100/hour? I didn't think so. So unless a place to work costs more than $20 an hour and you make $80 an hour, then it's money in your pocket to do it yourself.
the way I see it is if I can pay someone to do the work for less than what it would cost me to miss work, then it's to my advantage to pay them.
just like speeding tickets. go to the judge and he tells you that you can pay a $100 fine, or 40 hours of community service.
that's basically $2.50/hour. it would be stupid to do the community service, as you can earn $100 in way less time than 40 hours..

If you guys feel the need to pay someone else to work on your cars, go right ahead. I'm just pointing out the fact you're throwing money down the drain.

not really, If it costs me $100 to have him install it and I make $150-$175 a day I can drop my car off and pay him $100 and still go to work, If I did it myself I would miss work and I have a job that I have to be there the whole day or its not worth going, so missing one hour is like missing the whole day.

Well first of all Andy did a great job, worth the time and money. BTW he earned little off my installation. The fact is it was very cheap. 3 hours worth of work for 80- bucks, give me a break. The charges that occured was for the O2 senesor and misc items.

Now as for doing installs myself, If i knew what i was doing and with the proper equipment then yes most of the mods can be done. But limited space can be a down pour on my parade.

I dont live in the burbs, I live in a place where its hard to get any work on my max, even oil changes are a bother on city streets.

As far as spending the money, i shopped around and got the best prices, where alot of org members get taken at the dealers for alot more, frankly i dont feel i got taken, infact i feel that the labor was very resonable.

Why flame in the first place. Understandably the job is a DIY, just the lack in experience is what i have and tools.

BTW Since i paid Best Buy for my last installation of my subs, I took it upon myself to ask Jay to help install it for me. The first sub install i took notes and watched what they did as they did everything from wiring to tuning.

Yes i got my hands dirty, i got the pics to prove it, i'll post up later on
We started around 11pm didnt finish til 2:30am.

any ways, i just posted my thread to just share my thoughts of what new things i added,

-Izzy

funniest part...

you thought u spelled "soot" wrong so u put (sp) next to it...but then there are other words spelled wrong too.
just busting on u izzy..

matt some people do it themselves...some pay someone else to do it.

i guess people don't know the fun of modding it yourself. to each their own i guess.
IMO even if it takes 12 hours to change an alternator..the feeling of accomplishment when u fire up the engine and the car runs is priceless.

actaully I didnt notice the time,

and no Im not his lawyer but Im tired of everybody always correcting him or saying something stupid, alot of people make spelling errors but Izzy takes the most flack for everything. most of the time yeah its in a joking nature but then everybody jumps on the bandwagon and starts doing it.

well i don't know about the bandwagon..but i do admit that i mention his spelling mistakes in the hopes that he will improve his spelling on his other posts.

everyone makes mistakes but it seems like he makes the most..maybe that's why people get on his case.

well whatever the case is, this thread is getting off topic so i'll stop here.
