no, there's no drawbacks about it. whoever is telling you about water problems has never even SEEN a CAI on a Maxima, or any other properly designed CAI for that matter. you would have to be in water over 18" deep in order to have any problems.

do some searching on it, and you'll find tons of info on it.

the filter winds up directly beneath your battery, inside the fender well.

gains? hell yes. wouldn't think twice about doing it again.

here's install pics:

CAI sucking up water is kinda like back in the days when they said nitrous will blow up your engine. Yes both of these are possible but the tech and design between the two have increased over the years if done correct there shouldn't be any problem especially with a CAI on a VG, VE, VQ.

I live out in a rural area, that is a huge tourist attraction in the summer, so I end up taking the back dirt roads to avoid traffic, this summer the roads were always muddy, will mud build-up effect the CAI? When I wash the car and wash the wheel wells,to get the mud out, should I take extra care to cover the end so water doesnt get in it? Also will snow/ slush buildup in the wheel well in the winter affect the CAI?

unless you have so much that it seals every opening in the bumper region and the wheel wells, you'll have no problems. when you wash it, just don't spray directly into the compartment the filter is in and you'll be fine. even if you do spray directly into the compartment, just let it sit for a bit and it will be fine.

you won't have a problem. the filter is protected by the fender liner. there's no way slush, mud, gunk, or anythng else will build up in there, other than some dirt.

I take the filter out and clean it about every 6 months and it's pretty dirty, but it's nothing I would be worried about. my parents live out in the sticks too, so I see plenty of dirt roads.. don't worry about it. you'll be fine.
