Water pump removal problem 93SE 5sp.

Trying to remove water pump from bottom as described by RosenKen here:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=174226

Have removed crank pulley, AC idler, alternator, etc. Problem is I seem to need another half or one inch more space. Will this work: Jack stands under car. Floor jack under center support. Remove 4 bolts for center support. Lower center support slightly. Pry engine sideways to get another inch or so of clearance.

Any comments or other ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.

try moving the motor w/ the mounts still attached. there should be enough play to get to tilt over just a little bit. just use a scissor jack or something not too strong.

Good idea. Engine mounts are pretty solid. Tried a pry bar with no movement at all but a scissors jack might do the trick. Thanks.

pull it out from the top. I did one less than a week ago. if you wiggle and twist, it'll come out through the top- assuming all of the accessory belts are out. I also had to remove the bolt holding the AC pressure line down, just so it'd flex a bit.
it's a tight fit, but it does come out without prying and pushing on the engine.

I have 6 ABS brake lines below the AC line that look like they could be a problem. Also this car did have a front end collision that could have narrowed the clearances a bit. Either way it looks like for this car I'll have to make more space to get it out.

I'm just a bit nervous about completely removing the 4 bolts and depending on a floor jack to support the engine. I might just try just the 2 front bolts first and see how that works. I'll just take it slowly and with caution.

next time put the rtv on the block instead of the pump...that should keep your hands cleaner

put it on the block. much easier. and if you goober up a spot, move the pump out of the way and dab a bit on again before you squish the pump into it.
