Re-Attaching the side molding on doors
Re-Attaching the side molding on doors
I dunno if side molding is the proper term... But you know, the strips on the side of the doors.
Yeah well the drivers side door one is peeling off. From rain I guess =/ It's starting to bend down and it's making the car look all ghetto. Do they make double side tape that would re-attach it? And where abouts do I buy it?
Please don't tell me to just remove them
I know a lot of you like it that way, but I don't wanna go through painting it when I have no clue how to paint a car. I would definitely screw things up.
Thanks for any help!

Paint what?? You don't have to paint under the side moldings, its already painted. In most cases the only problem you have is that the paint under the side molding look newer than the rest of the car because its been protected for so long. (Well that and trying to remove the adhesive) If you want to re-attach them, I would use some spray adhesive from pepboys or a local auto shop. But yeah double sided tape will work to. Try and autoshop or hardware store.
P.S I've removed my side moldings, I just haven't had time to update the pics yet.

The paint under the molding is ridiculously dried out and dull. I even did a search and another person who removed the molding said how old and dull the paint under the molding was and his only solution was to repaint it.
Well, I don't know what to tell you. My paint that was under my moldings looks great. I've never had that problem with the other 4 vehicles I've done this to either, but the other three where realatively new cars.

Actually I believe taking them off would make the car less aerodynamic because you have indents on the car where wind will get caught up effectively slowing you down. The side moldings are angled so they cut right through the wind like knife through butter. They help stabilize the car too when you catch some air off ramps. They act as mini airplane wings. You don't know what you're missing.
It's not worth taking them off I would have to repaint it not to mention spend all that time getting the adhesive off.
By the way I bought 3M weather strip adhesive and it seems to be holding well.
Has anyone painted them a different color?
Do you think painting them black would look "ghetto?" My car is red and it would be a pain to match that.
I have one that is faded more than the others and it looks crappy.
