Wetness Problem?

I have a 1989 Maxima GXE (automatic), and when it snows here it does one of 2 things. Either it will stall out on me as I am driving (and can be re-started after about a minute, although it starts a little slow like there is excess gas perhaps in the engine, it will start) or it will be running ok, Ill come to a stop, and when I try to accelerate it will stall out (and can be re-started pretty much the same as when it stalls out on me while driving, maybe a little easier). Once I re-start my car, sometimes I can drive, and others it will die as soon as I try to put it in gear. It seems to only happen when it it snowing or there is quite a bit of snow on the road. Ive been told possibly spark plugs, distributor cap, or a grounding problem. The first time I thought it may be water in my gas, but the other times its happened there has been heat in the tank, so water in my gas shouldn't be a problem. Does anyone have any ideas? Even when it dies I still have power to the car, so it doesn't seem to be a battery problem or anything. When it starts to stall when I try to accelerate it will jerk forward several times, and if I floor it it has kept jerking for a few seconds and then it went back to normal. Thanks in advance for any help or info anyone can give me!
