Power/Comfort Switch - Don't think the bulb is merely out.

I used search but most everyone's problems on this switch have been that the lights were blown and they had to buy new ones.

My problem is, this switch was working properly some weeks ago, but when I switch it to power now I dont feel the difference. The light does not come on either. I'm curious what could be done to fix this because I do not think the bulb just needs replacing. I'm scared to bring it into Nissan because I am a poor boy and they always charge outrageous prices.

Also, I did remove the dash when installing a pocket/bin (took out the old tape deck) and it got jostled around a bit. Still, it is properly plugged in and though my first thought was that broke the bulbs somehow, I'm just not feeling the power change that I should when I switch it. This could be psychological though.

Thanks in advance

IMO, just put the switch in "power" and then drive it... see how long it takes for it to switch gears, ie 1st to 2nd to 3rd, etc. then put it in "comfort" and see how long it takes (should be less, than in power - as is my understanding, pls. correct me if I'm wrong).

BTW, anyone know how to physically get to the bulb in that unit (the "A/T" one) - I've replaced every other bulb except that one... it seems as though the two sections are super glued together (if you've seen the unit, you know what im talking about).

Pull the switch and check for continuity (sp?) in both positions. That'll tell you if the switch is bad before you go any farther.

The other thing you could do is check your gas mileage. Put the switch in power and pay attention to your gas mileage. Then put the switch in comfort and check the gas mileage again. If you get better mileage with comfort, then the switch is probably ok and it's just the bulb. If there is no difference in mileage between the two of them, then the switch may be broken.

best bet is to try what torontomax said. in power mode, the engine should shift at a higher rpm than in comfort mode. Also, the tranny shifts a bit quicker in comfort mode, so i guess you can tell that way.

look the only real way to nkow is get a tester and test the continuity of the switch.

Thanks for the suggestions and information everyone. I think I was just worried about my precious Maxima and jumped to conclusions. I just got back from testing it on a 55mph road where I can truly test to see if this works: Yes, the switch does seem to be in working order! Phew.

So it seems like I'll just be needing new bulbs for that switch and that is it. Did some searching and even found the exact number for the part I need (I love these forums! ) I'm betting the switch got bumped when I replaced the dash and that is what did it.

Thanks again.
