Tranny: gear noise

Tranny: gear noise
here is the deal: i have gear noise coming from my tranny..sounds like it has no oil but it does.. i changed my bearing and clutch 2 weeks ago so it is not the bearing. Some told me though that it is my final gear going out. It whines really bad in Reverse (it is a 5spd) and all the gears. It sounds like something is grinding all the time but when i have the gas pedal in a certain spot it does not whine. I have bought this car 2yrs ago (about 20k) and it was doing this the same when i got it. What should i do? Is it my tranny going out?

It sounds like the output shaft bearing. Have your own tranny rebuilt or repaired. Or get a used one from a junker. You may be able to get by with just an output bearing and some synro rings on your old trany. I had mine replaced with a rebuilt one from mantrans, I would not do that again. I got 165,000 miles on the original tranny. I would sooner have had my old one fixed locally and maybe just had an output bearing and synkro rings replaced. Good luck.
