odd problem this morning

around 11am i was gonna run to the gas station

started the max and it didn't wanna go above 1500rpm. which meant a slowly accelerating drive to station

idled really really rough when stopped at signs or light. and then at one light while sitting it smoothed out, so i reved it up and it did fine, and was fine for the rest of the short trip.

what just happened? never experienced that before

might be a problem with the MAF.. possibly some water or oil got on the wire inside and took a while to cook off, or the connector itself is not being cooverative.

maxima gremlins. j/k that could be one of many things causing that issue. check the TPS (throttle position sensor) and the MAF (mass air flow) for proper operation. a multimeter will help you with this. Could be numerous other things but it very hard to tell with out hearing it or seeing it.

thanks afraid of that, have had other symptoms of MAF failture for the past few months......such as when accerlating or even crusing will "stall" to idle but not cut off the engine. just become unresponsive for a few seconds

Those tend to be rather expensive to replace if the connector isn't at fault.

Any recommendations on the best place to get one?

junk yard. the MAF is the same from 89-94 so it should be pretty easy to find one.

more like 100. new they are about 250. if you go in and act like you need it for a a science project or something, it will be 20-30, but if you go in there talking the talk then it will cost you....unless you prefer the baggier clothes
