Awesome MPG!!

I fill my tank up completely everytime I get gas. This time I went 415 miles on 14.8 gallons of gas! That works out to 28 mpg! That means that I theoretically had 500+ mile to the tank if I ran it to complete empty! This car couldn't run any better!

Actually, i like the idea of this thread. I'm interested in knowing what driving patterns other auto 3rd gen drivers use to get good mileage.

I got 27.6 MPG on a trip to Pittsburgh recently while doing anwheres from 70-90mph most of the way, and not being very fuel mileage conscious. Thats phenomenal when you consider the way i was driving and all the friggin hills in southwest Pennsylvania along I-76.

Strangely enough, on the way back while taking it easy (70-75mph and not to much herky-jerky throttle modulation or downshifts out of lockup) i got worse, just under 27 (26.8 if i remember correctly). I kept the tranny in comfort mode both ways except when accelerating from toll booths and from on ramps from side streets when i needed to hold gears longer without shifting myself. As automatic owners know, in power mode the tranny shifts out of lockup too easily when going up hills when IMHO, it doesnt need to to maintain speed without much throttle pressure, so i usually leave the tranny in comfort mode on the highway and power mode in the city.

I get anywhere from 20-23 during the week on my 3 mile commute to work.

Oh, i have a 92GXE auto. No mods, and just a cheapo K&N panel filter, Bosch +4s, and a new cheapo Purolator gas filter.

Anybody else got a travel/gas mileage tale?

Edit: typo

That's about what I got on my trip to Eastern washington about a month ago. I bought half a gallon of gas (bringing my tank just under 3/4) and made it there with just under 1/4 tank. Average speed was 75-90 (and passing a few slower vehicles every now and then).

Something's definitely broke/worn on your car.

What gas stations do you guys have best experience with? I found texaco to be solid. Shell's/bp's are a bunch of thieves.

Man I'm averaging about 20 to 21 mpg. Usually about 300 miles to each tank. I whish I could hit 400!!! But I'm all city, no long trips in this ride. Thats what the Trailblazer's for.

Texaco = Shell

Right now I'm on Arco, depending on the mileage I get, I might go to Chevron or Texaco, but I will most likely stay on Arco

I wish i had the luxury of choosing good gas stations. Around here, i get Getty for $1.87 and gas stations like Mobil charge like $2.05. At that price difference, i cant afford to buy the more expensive stuff. Still, Getty got me the 27.6 MPG, and the engine seemed OK, so it cant be that bad i suppose.

I have been doing a mix of city/highway. I commute to school over a 35 mile hike. Usually I do close to the speed limit (60-70) due to recent tickets I have. (kinda wanna keep my license) I have been really gentle on the car, with slow acceleration and such. That's probably why my mileage was so high.

I've had nothing but good experiences with Cheveron. I used it for over a year in my 300zx. And it seemed to clean out the engine and perform way better, unless it was all in my head. But I don't believe so because I noticed a big difference from when I switched. And so I put cheveron in my Maxima too. My maxima will definately do over 400 miles in one tank. Plus down here cheveron is only 1.57 for premium. Can't loose good gas for decent price. In my oppinion Cheveron gas is good for these cars.

I get about 350-400 in my Max. I agree with ^ about Chevron gas; that's all I try to put in my Max.

On the drive back from SanFran to Seattle, I was getting well over 400 miles and it wasn't even on the 1/4 mark yet. But that's best case.

I usually get somewhere near 320-ish on 15 gal. But that's mostly commute/traffic jam type stuff

Some of those fuel injector cleaners are so strong that you can only use them once in a while. Besides, Chevron gas has their own additive in the gas.
