Rock on?

Rock on?
Well, my car decided to eat a rock yesterday. I was on the freeway yesterday when it was stuttering and hesitating like mad. I'd be in 4th gear trying to get up to speed when all of the sudden the tach needle would stop and the car would fall head over heels. It'd gradually get back up on its feet but then repeat all over again. It wouldn't idle at all (it'd just die), but my efforts to keep it alive by blipping the throttle at stops seemed to work a bit.
The ECU was throwing a code 12 (maf sensor problem) and I had no idea what it was (especially since it was 9:30pm on a Sunday night). After looking into the situation today, I found out that my car had sucked in a small rock (don't know how it got past the filter) and it had gotten stuck on one of the MAF wires. Check out the picture below.
Man was I lucky that didn't get sucked any further. So, after properly persuading the rock to leave its new home with the help of a #3 flathead screwdriver, my Max is back in action.
Rock 'n roll.

i didn't quite have a rock in my maf but i think my maf is bad. i got a code 12 on my ecu and couldn't find my book to see what code it was. i thought it was the an ignition code because i had an ignition code a while back but then i saw him say code 12 was maf so now i have to test my maf. i went out again and revved it and it indeed stopped at 3500 rpm just like a bad or disconnected maf would do. hopefully it's the maf itself but just a loose wire or something.

MrGone- I took the poorman's CAI out thinking that it was causing problems (the stuff isn't expensive therefore its easy to break). I think the rock came in through that thing.
mtcookson- Glad that this thread ignited some progress on your car.

if your maf is unpluged it shouldnt rev past 2500rpms if its geting to 3500 it still could be that your maf is indeed fuged up just not completly dead or disconected i would swap a known working on in and see buy the way which side of the turbo is your maf on

wierd..when i was being stupid and my MAF was disconnected, it would only start once out of every 5 or so tries, and when it did start, i could only rev to 2200..if that, it would start sputtering around 1800..
who knows, my max is full of gremlins, most of which i can deal with.

it caused you problems too? hermmm mine sucked in duct tape. i had my screens on (shawn: thats one reason why you don't need to clip them).
